Yesterday Paris was and continues to remain hot. Unbearably so. We don’t like hot, so we decided to escape to Antwerp. Great to have easy access and the chance to discover a new place.
4 days in Antwerp…well we tried to escape the heat but it has come along for the ride, although not quite as pervasive as Paris.
This is an interesting town in many ways. The history of its art and culture both from the past and today are amazing. A mix in every way and from the surface they seem to exist in harmony. We visited the Red Star Line museum, which chronicles the stories of those who traveled across the world in search of a better life. The line was a true lifeline across the Atlantic for many escaping poverty, violence and oppression and continued until 1934.
We have wandered the town and marvel at some of the beautiful buildings from the 1600’s and before, as well as some of the new parts, rebuilt after the Nazi destruction during WW 2 when they used V for vengeance, bombs.
